Fellow Nigerians,
The last one year of the Tinubu administration has been the worst in the history of Nigeria bringing the most severe hardship and hunger ever witnessed since the civil war.
According to recent reports, Nigerians spend 80% of their income on food alone. This goes further to reveal the number of people that have been thrown into extreme poverty and hunger by this Tinubu APC led administration.
Bloomberg reported in November (2022) that almost 133 million Nigerians, or 63% of the population, are “multidimensionally poor.” So if you live in a country of 200 million population and 133 million are poor, you’re also poor and not safe either.
Based on World Bank projections, about 40.7 percent of Nigerians are estimated to live below the international poverty line by the end of 2024.
Despite this dire need to lift the government out of poverty, the government instead engraved more poverty into the system by their policies targeted at keeping the people perpetually poor.
The Tinubu APC led government budgeted N7 billion for renovating president, vice official residences in Lagos. In Lagos! Lagos! Lagos! Premium Times and Arise TV reported that Tinubu Allocated N13.5bn For Villa Renovation and N7.3bn For State House Cars.
On Top of this, the Punch reported that the Lawmakers budgeted fresh N30bn for N’Assembly renovation. This same government allocated N15 billion for the construction of a new residence for the Vice President as reported by Vanguard. The same government allocated N90 billion for Hajj 2024 as reported by Punch.
When Nigerians decided to voice out their oppression during the #ENDSARS protest, many people lost their lives and the government of Buhari denied every form of killing. Many years after, no justice has been seen for the victims of the #endsars protest.
The government continues to do everything within their power to impoverish the people and keep them in extreme hunger despite huge national resources. For the case of Nigeria, it has been from frying pan to fire for each successive government. Every government comes in and acts worse than the previous administration.
The bad part of this is that these are all intentional actions by greedy politicians who do not think that the average Nigerian should live a normal life. They do this to weaponize poverty so they can continue to buy groups like the #saynotoprotest protesters.
But in all of this, one thing is clear, the government understands how powerful protests can be and how it is the only fighting tool of the common man against government entities like we have in Nigeria.
This is the reason for all the fights you have been seeing to make sure that the protest does not hold. The senate president and his cohorts were seen in a video mocking Nigerians preparing to protest about how they’d be eating while the people are on the street.
It has never been so clear to any blind man that these men are evil and do not in any way care about the common man on the street.
This same administration is planning to buy new presidential plans despite the fleet they already have.
For a common Nigerian in his village, there is no presence of government in any part of their life as there is no visible or functional healthcare, no security, no electricity, no roads and the people have to provide these amenities for themselves in one way or the other.
Dividing the people on religious and tribal lines is a common tool the government has always utilised and each time, this tool works. The same thing is playing out in this organised protest.
It’s a sad thing to say the least but there is no hope for the common man. The #endbadgovernance protest is the only tool to test the resolve of this administration in milking the resources of the nation for their personal gains.
Sad sad day!
